Tillandsia matudae is rare in commercial cultivation. This mexican airplant has a silvery grey-green colour making it easy to confuse with much more common Tillandsia velickiana The difference really becomes apparent when the plant flowers. Tillansdsia matudae can be somewhat variable, producing a similarly pendulous inflorescence to that of velickiana but ranging in colour from orange-red to yellow-green when compared to the soft pink of velickiana. The flowers themselves are white and extend beyond the floral bract.
