Impatiens niamniamensis – congo cockatoo
An impressive yet bizarre relative of the humble Busy Lizzie, it’s perhaps only fitting that this ‘Parrot Plant’ has a tongue twister of a name too!
Great as a houseplant or in pots on the patio for the Summer (Not frost hardy). Impatiens niamniamensis – congo cockatoo can grow to around 3 feet tall and seems to flower fairly constantly.
Impatiens niamniamensis really has one of the most interesting flowers. It’s 1-1.5″ exotic two tone scarlet red/ canary yellow shrimp shaped flowers with their lime green hoods are produced in abundance!
Grow in a reasonably rich compost that holds some moisture. Water regularly and feed monthly to encourage flowering. Temperatures between 10-30 degrees Celsius are ideal. Plenty of bright light but avoid direct afternoon sunlight.
Supplied in a 9cm pot.
Can sometimes wilt or flag after shipping. If this happens water the plant and keep in a shady spot for the first 48 hours after which it will have perked back up.
